Hydrodynamic Aspects of Floating Offshore Structures

In the report, a review is given of typical behavior observed in floatingstructures under various conditions. Much of the data given in this part has been derived from model tests carried out in a wind, wave and current environment. After this introduction, attention is focused entirely on wave-related phenomena concerning stationary floating structures. A numerical procedures to predict wave-induced loads and motions based on linear three-dimensional potential theory is discussed and the validity of such methods, for which computer codes are generally available, is demonstrated by comparison with results of model tests. Finally, an important non-linear effect in the wave loads on floatig structures being the mean and low-frequency second order wave drift forces is treated. Results of model tests are compared with results of model tests.
