摘要

Residences can be depressurized due to tight construction, operation of exhaustequipment, imbalanced air distribution systems, or local weather. In some cases, house depressurization can cause gas-fired furnaces, boilers or water heaters equipped with draft hoods or induced draft fans to backdraft and spill combustion products into indoor spaces. The potential for depressurization-induced backdrafting and spillage in the U.S. housing stock currently is not known, nor is the actual frequency or severity of such events. This report presents a protocol for determining backdrafting/spillage potential, based on a series of short-term measurements and tests, and for determining actual occurrences of backdrafting and spillage events, based on continuous monitoring.
