Evaluation of the Mechanical Performance of Large Diameter Coiled PE Gas Pipe andthe 3M Electronic Marker System. Final Report, September 1994-December 1995

This project was undertaken for the purposes of evaluating coiled pipe before andafter being reconditioned and the performance of the equipment used to straighten and reround the coiled pipe. Four-inch (IPS) coiled pipe was used for the program with more than 6,000 feet being straightened by two different makes of equipment. The mechanical properties including dimensions were determined on pipe before and after reconditioning and after the pipe was in the ground for approximately seven months. The overall cost of installing the 4-inch coiled pipe was less than doing the equivalent job with straight pipe. The greatest savings came from the reduction of the number of fusions required.
