摘要

The iron-enhanced dechlorination technology was evaluated under the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) program at a contaminated site in New Jersey. This paper describes the ability of this technology to destroy chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in contaminated groundwater. Specifically, this paper discusses performance and economic data from a demonstration of the technology. The technology involves oxidation of iron and reductive dechlorination of chlorinated VOCs in aqueous media. During reductive dehalogenation, VOCs are converted to hydrocarbons and inorganic chlorides. The process can be used for either in situ or ex situ groundwater treatment.
