In July 1995, implantable satellite transmitters were deployed in 10 commonnurres and 5 tufted puffins at the Barren Islands, Gulf of Alaska. In a related study, 20 transmitters were deployed in common and thick-billed murres (Uria Lomvia) at two colonies in the Chukchi Sea.
