Isopropanol Evaporation from a Printing Process

An actual printing process is studied. The process consists of four offsetprinting units and a drying oven. Evaporation surfaces considered are the paper web and the offset printing units. Dominant evaporation mechanism off the paper web is air flow caused by the movement of the web. Major evaporation surfaces in the printing units are the rotating cylinders. The principal difficulty in predicting the evaporation rate by calculation was the lack of information of how printing ink and the fountain water behave when in contact with each other and surfaces involved in the printing process. Grounds for checking mass balance by two individual, separate methods were seeked for by the field measurements.
