Metal Detection Survey of Site 24BH266, the Grapevine Fortification Site, BigHorn County, Montana

The National Park Service conducted a metal detector survey of Site 24BH266during September 1997. The project was conducted in order to provide additional physical evidence of an intertribal battle between the Crow and Piegan during the ninteenth century. The site consists of 23 rock rings identified as fortifications from the battle. The metal detector survey covered the Piegan as well as the Crow positions. No materials related to a cartridge firearm battle were recovered from the site.
