Efficient Computation of Transient Diffusive Electromagnetic Fields

When dealing with electromagnetic fields in configurations where the conductivity211u001edoes not vanish and where one confines oneself to low frequencies, e.g. in many 211u001egeophysical applications, it is reasonable to neglect the displacement currents 211u001ein Maxwell's equations. The resulting set of equations describes the behavior of 211u001ethe diffusive electromagnetic field. In this paper, we propose to compute the 211u001etransient diffusive electromagnetic field by considering Maxwell's equations as a 211u001esystem of first-order partial differential equations and by carrying out a 211u001eLanczos algorithm with this system in a fashion similar to the one presented for 211u001eelectromagnetic wavefields by Remis and Van den Berg (PB97-204655).
