Massachusettes Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory is supporting the211u001eTerminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) Program Office and Program Support Facility 211u001ein the performance analysis of deployed TDWR systems, and resulting 211u001erecommendations for system enhancements. This report, the first of a series, 211u001edocuments measured performance of the TDWR at Washington National Airport (DCA), 211u001eMemphis International Airport (MEM) and Orlando International Airport (MCO). The 211u001ereport includes a description of the optimization procedure, using DCA as an 211u001eexample. For each site, the generation of clutter residue editing maps (CREMs), 211u001ethe collection of base data (Doppler velocity and reflectivity) and product data 211u001e(algorithm detections), and the assessment of the performance of the microburst 211u001eand gust front detection algorithms are discussed.
