摘要

The Corrective Action Program attempts to minimize the federal cleanup burden by211u001ehaving current operating facilities clean up their hazardous waste contamination, 211u001ethereby preventing them from becoming Superfund sites. Although the Corrective 211u001eAction Program has been in effect since 1984, concerns have been raised that 211u001ecompanies are not cleaning up their facilities quickly enough and that the 211u001eproperties remain contaminated, posing risks to public health and the 211u001eenvironment. To assess the current status of the Corrective Action Program, you 211u001easked us to determine: (1) the progress made in cleaning up facilities under the 211u001eprogram, (2) factors affecting progress, and (3) any initiatives that the 211u001eEnvironmental Protectin Agency (EPA), the states, and industry have taken to 211u001eaccomplish cleanups.
