This report discusses weaknesses the authors identified during their assessmentof the general controls over the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) information system maintained and operated by a contractor for the Department of Education. Such controls are critical to Education's ability to safeguard assets, maintain sensitive loan data, and ensure the reliability of financial management information.
