Samples were collected from Prince William Sound and were extracted by EPAmethods (3540, 3550) to produce dichloromethane (DCM) extracts, and small aliquots of these were applied to human liver cancer cells (101L), which produce a luminescent enzyme (luciferase) if dioxins, furans, coplanar PCBs and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are present.
