Advanced Minibus Demonstration Project for the Philadelphia Region.

This report is the second part of a larger study of the Advanced Minibus concept. Part I is the technical report that describes the concept in detail. This report provides two candidate demonstration projects in the Philadelphia region where the Advanced Minibus concept can be evaluated and further developed. The primary criteria for selection of the demonstration area and type of service was its likelihood of yielding knowledge that is useful in the planning and design of advanced minibus services. The demonstration design must be such that it has generic applicability to other locations as well; it must be relevant to various locations around the region and the nation. For this reason, the two demonstration projects described here each emphasize different applications of the concept. The first is centered around the needs of a university campus and also provides an opportunity to assess the difference that APTS technologies makes in the quality and popularity of the service. The second stresses the flexibility of the concept by providing a feeder role by day and a community circulator role by night. However, in this second project the service design is predicated on the use of APTS technology, so that it creates a service that could not even exist without the use of these two technologies. It is hoped that these two example projects will be found to be useful examples for similar projects elsewhere.
