Observations of the Atmospheric Tide, Mean Wind, and Sodium Nightflow Near theMesopause with the Magneto-Optic Doppler Analyzer

摘要

In this thesis, the author (1) demonstrates a new instrument design that iscapable of measuring winds and nightglow; (2) present measurements of the mean winds, tides, and sodium nightglow near the mesopause (ca. 90 km); (3) compare these wind results with those measured by other instruments and results of numerical and empirical models; and (4) compare the nightglow intensity measurements with the predictions of a comprehensive numerical model, to better understand the interaction of the tides with the mesopause-region chemistry.
