Beta-depth-dose Distribution in a PMMA Phantom from a 188W Linesource, Measured by Means of Special Purpose TLD's

Nucleron BV is developing a beta line source for cardiovascular branchytherapy: For this application of the source, knowledge of the radial depth-dose (rate) distribution in the region up to 5 mm from the source is crucial. In this report results are presented from: beta-dose rate measurements at various distances from a prototype line source of known activity. From these measurements it is possible to deduce the irradiation time needed to apply the medical dose in the vascular tissue using a source of known activity; and photon dose rate measurements in the range of 10-100 cm to determine the dose received by medical personnel during the medical vascular treatment.
