Recommendations Regarding Public Screening for Measuring Blood Cholesterol (Reprint)

This report, developed jointly by the NHLBI and the American Heart Association, covers the essential components of public cholesterol screening (recruitment, analyzer operation and quality control, education of participants, screening environment, and referral and follow-up) and provides recommendations for each component. It also addresses special issues, such as cholesterol testing in children and adolescents, home testing, and direct measurement of LDL-cholesterol, and includes a reproducible risk factor questionnaire.
