摘要

This report presents metal adsorption distribution coefficients (K values) for211u001ethe metals barium (Ba), beryllium (Be), cadmium (Cd), chromium(III) (Cr(III)), 211u001eand lead (Pb) in groundwater under the highly alkaline conditions possible with 211u001eland disposal of cement kiln dust (CKD). K is the ratio of concentration sorbed 211u001eto concentration in the dissolved phase at d equilibrium. The K values were 211u001edetermined using the U.S. EPA geochemical speciation model, d MINTEQA2. The above 211u001ementioned metals along with antimony, arsenic, chromium(VI), and thallium were 211u001ethe subject of an earlier metal transport study employing K values from the 211u001eHazardous Waste Identification Rule (HWIR). The purpose of the current study is 211u001eto assess whether the K values from HWIR can be used in the highly alkaline 211u001econditions expected from d CKD disposal. Earlier in this study, an assessment of 211u001ethe applicability of HWIR K values to the d CKD disposal scenario identified Ba, 211u001eBe, Cd, Cr(III), and Pb as the metals most likely to have adsorptive behavior 211u001esignificantly different from the HWIR Subtitle D landfill scenario. The Kd values 211u001efor the metals presented in this report are the result of modifying the HWIR 211u001emodeling parameters to reflect groundwater conditions expected in land disposal 211u001eof CKD.
