Otitis media is a common medical condition. The medical and surgical treatment ofchildren for otitis media is associated with large expenditures. Despite the burden if illness it imposes, the increasing prevalence of drug-resistant pneumococci, and the high medical expenditures, only limited population data are available describing age-specific rates for medical and surgical services related to otitis media.
