Aging Baby Boom: Implications for Employment and Training Programs

The post-World War II baby boom generation has had a profound effect on public211u001epolicy and society at large. At each stage of the life cycle, this generation has 211u001echanged the demand for public services. The social and policy phenomena 211u001eassociated with the baby boom result from a complex interaction of (1) the sheer 211u001enumbers of people in this generation, and (2) the coincident occurrence of 211u001eimportant events and developments in society and the economy as a whole. As the 211u001ebaby boom generation turns fifty, it is important to reconsider the implications 211u001efor U.S. employment and training programs. This paper presents background 211u001einformation about the baby boom generation, its characteristics, how it compares 211u001eto other generations, and factors affecting this cohort.
