This section summarizes the findings from the case study interviews. Section 3.1211u001edefines a variety of fleet operating characteristics. Section 3.2 describes four 211u001eIntelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) fleet management technologies for which 211u001einformation was collected. Section 3.3 provides a brief description of each case 211u001estudy fleet. Section 3.4 discusses the operating characteristics of the case 211u001estudy fleets discussed, with particular attention given to similarities and 211u001edifferences among the carriers. Next, Section 3.5 details the factors that are 211u001ecritical to carrier routing and dispatching decision-making processes, and 211u001eSection 3.6 discusses the ITS technologies used by the carriers in their daily 211u001eoperations. Finally, Section 3.7 summarizes key trends that will affect future 211u001efleet management practices and the ITS needs of the case study motor carriers.
