The Department established the Defense Environmental Security CorporateInformation Management (DESCIM) program to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local environmental laws and regulations and to centralize and standardize the environmental reporting process. The FY 98 DESCIM Information Technology budget of $14.358M includes funds for the re-engineering, fielding and integration of migration systems leading to a target environment which support. Cleanup of hazardous waste sites; Compliance with underground storage tank regulations; Compliance with laws associated with hazardous waste, hazardous material, toxic release inventory, safety, and explosive safety; Compliance with regulations associated with air and water pollution, and Executive Orders associated with Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) and pollution prevention; Conservation of natural and cultural resources; and Information and technology transfer.
