FHWA Study Tour for Bridge Maintenance Coatings. FHWA's Scanning Program

A major goal of the scanning tour was to exchange innovative ideas and methodsfor steel bridge preservation and painting and hazardous paint removal in Europe and the United States. This was accomplished through observation of European bridge painting operations and comparison with current U.S. practice, as understood by the panel. In this context, a brief description of U.S. bridge maintenance painting practice is appropriate.
