Purpose: The purpose of this was to further understanding of primary carephysician (PCP) turnover (job exit). Study Design: A panel of 533 postresident, employed, nonfederal PCPs younger than 45 years of age, in practice between two and nine years, participated in two national surveys on physician practice patterns in 1987 and 1991. Univariate and multivariate analyses utilized individual PCP and organizational variables from 1987 as the independent variables and turnover from 1991 as the dependent variable.
