Middle Rio Grande Water Assessment: Determination of Soil Conservation ServiceModified Blaney-Criddle Crop Coefficients in New Mexico. Supporting Document No. 5

The Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) asked the Agricultural Engineering (AEN) programat New Mexico State Univeristy to develop consumptive use coefficients for crops and phraeatophytes in the Middle Rio Grande region which can be used to estimate consumptive use of water with the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) Modified Blaney-Criddle method. Crop coefficients were developed from lysimeter data for major crops grown in Sandoval, Bernalillim Velencia, and Socorro counties on the Middle Rio Grande region. This report explains the application of the SCS Modified Blaney-Criddle equation to estimate evapotranspiration (ET), data used for determining the crop coefficients and values of coefficients for each species, as well as a procedure to adjust crop coefficients based on crop production functions to reflect field production level.
