摘要

The report summarizes AECL's understanding of how the Canadian Shield has beenconstructed through the generation of new crust and the accretion of microcontinents, and how stages of this process are characterized by different types of plutonic intrusions. The degree of both magmatic and tectonic, ductile and brittle deformation undergone by a plutonic rock body, affects its suitability for the disposal of nuclear fuel waste, and is, in general, related to the tectonic stage of emplacement for an intrusion or of formation for the drier, metalmorphic residual gneisses.
