The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Occupational Health Programenrolled its first students in 1986, graduating the first masters prepared nurse in 1987. With the assistance of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), this graduate level occupational health program has graduated forty highly qualified occupational health nurses. During this grant period, July 1994 through June 1997, eighteen occupational health nurses graduated from one of the two major options offered through the occupational health program. The Primary Care Option prepares adult nurse practitioners in occupational health who can be certified by both the state of Pennsylvania and the credentialing body of the American Nurses Association.
