Arts Education Consensus Project: 1997 Arts Education Assessment Framework.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the only nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas. Since 1969 assessments have been conducted to provide comprehensive information on student knowledge and skills at ages 9, 13, and 17, and more recently for students in grades 4, 8, and 12. By making the information on student performance and related factors available to policymakers, parents, educators, and the general public, NAEP is an integral part of our Nation's evaluation of the condition and progress of student achievement.
