摘要

Binary mixtures of iron chips and graphite flakes were prepared as syntheticstandards for calibrating and evaluating the feasibility of using neutron elastic scattering by Penetron, Inc., for determining in-situ corrosion of cast-iron piping used for natural gas distribution. The in-situ measurement of corrosion severity was based on the Penetron concept that carbon/iron ratios would vary from the normal ratios present in uncorroded pipes. If changes in the carbon/iron ratios could be detected in-situ, they might then be used to detect pipes prone to possible leakage.
