摘要

The Washington Department of Health (WDOH) has evaluated the public healthsignificance of the Palermo Wellfield (PW) groundwater contamination site located in Tumwater, Washington. During routine sampling in August 1993, the solvent trichloroethylene (TCE) was detected in three of the six PW wells. Additional environmental investigations identified a second solvent tetrachloroethylene (PCE) in soil and groundwater in the upland area (upgradient) of the wellfield. WDOH completed a health consultation for the PW in December 1996. The health consultation concluded that past exposure may have occurred to consumers of PW drinking water between 1990 and 1993. However, the levels of TCE and PCE were not present at concentrations expected to result in adverse health effects. All three of the six wells with documented contamination were immediately removed from service following detection of the groundwater contamination.
