Determinants of Educational Achievement and Attainment in Africa: Findings from211 Nine Case Studies. Health and Human Resources Analysis for Africa

This paper presents an overview and discussion of nine studies that attempt to211u001eexplain educational achievement, attainment, and participation in different 211u001eAfrican countries. Available information on school, household, child, and 211u001ecommunity characteristics are explored for this purpose. Four of the studies base 211u001etheir analyses on national sample surveys, the remainder on evidence from field 211u001einvestigations of specific interventions at the primary level. This overview 211u001ediscusses the significance, limitations, and policy and research implications of 211u001ethe findings.
