How to Start an Undergraduate Gerontology Program at a Community College

The objective is the development and operation of the first EldercareProfessional Training Program at the community college level in Colorado and the Denver metro area. The program meets the guidelines for Certificate Programs in Gerontology of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. The CCD Gerontology Certificate Program is comprised of a 12 credit hour curriculum of academic course work, service learning, practicum experience, and seminar/capstone projects. Two subordinate objectives were: (1) one hundred percent of participating students engage in a service learning project, (2) to focus on recruitment and retention effort for minority students.
