Ground penetrating radar (GPR) still is in a developing stage, but it has great211u001epotential in the near future. The GPR has applications in the detection of land 211u001emines in former countries of war, buried pipelines and cable lines. But in GPR, 211u001esurveying one of the main problems is the mismatch of the antenna with respect to 211u001ethe earth. As a consequence, a great part of the emitted electromagnetic power is 211u001ereflected at the earth's surface. A research project was proposed around the 211u001eproblem of matching the GPR antenna to the earth's surface. The project starts 211u001ewith this report and contain a parameter study and sensitivity analysis of a 211u001esimple model configuration consisting of a finite straight, thin wire excited by 211u001ea pulsed current which is located above a lossless, dielectric earth where in 211u001ebetween the antenna and the earth a dielectric slab is located. In this report we 211u001eoutline what the effects are of inserting a dielectric slab in the configuration 211u001eand how this is accomplished.
