摘要

Six test units representing cast-in-place pile shafts were tested to examine that211u001epart of the structure about the subgrade plastic hinge. An experimental apparatus 211u001ewas designed to simulate the moment pattern in this part of the structure. Three 211u001elevels of transverse reinforcement were tested in two test units each, using 211u001eCaltrans design guidelines as baseline design; longitudinal reinforcement was not 211u001evaried. One unit of each pair was tested with simulation of the confining effect 211u001eof soil, the other without any external confinement. It was found that 211u001econfinement provided by soil about the pile shaft can considerably enhance the 211u001eoverall ductility capacity of the structure.
