The Medical Expenditure Panel Suvey (MEPS) is the third in a series of nationally211u001erepresentative surveys of medical care use and expenditures sponsored by the 211u001eAgency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR). MEPS comprises four component 211u001esurveys. The Nursing Home Component produces national estimates of insurance 211u001ecoverage and the use of services, expenditures, and sources of payment for 211u001epersons residing in or admitted to nursing homes. The NHC also gathers 211u001einformation on nursing home characteristics-such as facility type, ownership, 211u001echain affiliation, certification, facility size, and location-for a nationally 211u001erepresentative sample of nursing homes. This report documents the implementation 211u001eof the sample design for the MEPS Nursing Home Component, including the sampling 211u001eframe, facility selection, and within-facility sample selection through Round 1 211u001eof data collection.
