摘要

The Jackson Lake Archeological Project began in 1983 when the reservoir at211u001eJackson Lake was lowered to facilitate repair of the dam. The intentional 211u001elowering of the reservoir, combined with a drought in 1987 and 1988, caused the 211u001elake to reach pre-reservoir levels. A pedestrian inventory of the area under the 211u001eJackson Lake pool recorded 109 archeological sites ranging in date from 211u001ePaleoindian to historic Euroamerican times; inventory and site-testing data are 211u001eavailable in five other volumes. This report synthesizes these data with 211u001eavailable regional data to better understand human adaptation in the 211u001eintermountain area. Topics addressed here include theoretical aspects of mountain 211u001eadaptations; biases inherent in, as well as potential for, using data from 211u001einundated sites; culture history, settlement and subsistence in Jackson Hole.
