Mach 6 Testing of a Scramjet Engine Model

Testing of a sub-scale scramjet research engine model was carried out in the Mach211u001e6 Ramjet Engine Test Facility of the National Aerospace Laboratory, Kakuda 211u001eResearch Center. By attaching a short strut on the top wall, intensive combustion 211u001ewith high combustion efficiency was attained, and the engine-produced thrust 211u001ecanceled the drag. The flame was held in the low-velocity region around the step, 211u001eeven after the ignitors had been turned off. When the fuel flow rate was small, 211u001ethere was a different combustion mode with weak combustion and little thrust. 211u001eTangential injection of fuel inhibited intensive combustion.
