The main objective of the research described in this thesis was to investigate211u001epossibilities to integrate denitrification with a nitrifying biofilm airlift 211u001esuspension (BAS) reactor, for the removal of inorganic nitrogenous compounds from 211u001ewastewater. To achieve this objective, the research was divided into three parts. 211u001ePart 1: General aspects of nitrification in a BAS reactor; Part 2: Process 211u001edesigns for integration of denitrification and a nitrifying BAS reactor; and Part 211u001e3: Development of the Biofilm Airlift Suspension Extension reactor.
