Biomarkers of Kidney Function for Environmental Health Field Studies

This publication is one in a series of books on the Priority Health Conditions(PHCs). This report represents continued progress by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) in identifying methods to characterize the adverse effects of toxic substances released from hazardous waste sites (and other point sources of pollution) on the health of people living or working nearby. A workshop was convened to discuss a variety of tests available to assess kidney function in people exposed to nephrotoxic substances. ATSDR used these discussions to enhance its existing battery of tests used to identify kidney dysfunction in environmental health field studies. This battery is used in conjunction with test batteries adopted by ATSDR for other PHCs.
