This study examines the characteristics of the Habitat for Humanity International(HFHI) program as implemented by elected affiliates. To obtain the necessary information, researchers interviewed and conducted focus-goup sessions with Habitat homeowners who have purchased homes fron 19 HFHI affiliates located in urban and rural areas across the country. The report finds that total housing costs including utilities, maintenance, mortgage, taxes, and insurance have not become a burden for most Habitat homebuyers. Monthly housing costs average $434, and homebuyers pay an average of 25 to 30 percent of their incomes on loan repayment, taxes, and insurance at the time of purchase.
