摘要

Initiated in 1972, the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) is an annual211u001esample survey of households in the United States conducted by the Bureau of 211u001eJustice Statistics (BJS). Currently, 45,000 households are in the sample. All 211u001ehousehold members age 12 or over, or approximately 94,000 residents, are 211u001einterviewed twice yearly about incidents in which they were the victims of a 211u001ecrime during the previous 6 months. The NCVS was created to obtain information on 211u001eboth crimes that are reported to the police and those that are not. It 211u001ecomplements the police-reported crime data found in the FBI's Uniform Crime 211u001eReports (UCR). Because the UCR and NCVS programs are conducted for different 211u001epurposes, use different methods, and focus on somewhat different aspects of 211u001ecrime, the information they produce together provides a more comprehensive 211u001epanorama of the Nation's crime problem than either could produce alone. The NCVS 211u001emeasures property crimes and the violent crimes of rape and sexual assault, and 211u001esimple assault.
