The Advance Manufacturing Technology Center (AMTC) is an initiative to upgrade the technology capabilities of the small and midsized companies that are manufacturers of metal products in an eight county area of Northeastern Wisconsin so they can compete more effectively in domestic and global markets, to create and retain high technology jobs in the region. Market research projects a growing shortage in the targeted region of metalworking technicians skilled in operation of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools. The education and training programs now available in the region are not meeting employers' requirements. They are not generating a supply of qualified CNC machine operators adequate to replace normal attrition from aging of the current work force and to sustain economic growth in the area.
