These Proceedings contain the papers presented at the 7th International Symposium211u001eon Practical Design of Ships and Mobil Units. The Symposium was held at the 211u001eCONGRES CENTRE in The Hague, The Netherlands, on 20-25 September 1998. The main 211u001ethemes of this Symposium are Design Production, Ship Hydromechanics, Ship 211u001eStructures and Materials and Offshore Engineering. Proposal for over two hundred 211u001epapers have been received for PRADS '98 from 25 countries, and 126 have been 211u001eaccepted for presentation at the Conference. Given the Organizing Committee to 211u001emake a proper balanced selection. Some topics, which attracted many papers, were 211u001eDesign Loads, Design for Ultimate Strength, Impact of Safety and Environment, 211u001eGrounding and Collision, Resistance and Flow, Seakeeping, Fatigue Considerations 211u001eand Propulsor and Propulsion Systems. The great current interest in these topics 211u001eand the high quality of the papers guarantee a successful Conference.
