Energy systems are going to change largely in the next century. Global energy demand is always increasing, exacerbating the Global Warming. At the United Nations Convention on Climate Change Kyoto (COP3) December 1997, it was agreed that Japan should reduce its anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases by 6 percent below 1990 level in the commitment period 2008 to 2012. The content of this report is as follows. Chapter one contains backgrounds and outlines of the study group's activity. Chapter two outlines the situation of related researches and the approaches of this study. Chapter three describes the concept of a new energy network from the viewpoint of its function, energy flows, information flows and the integrated control of these flows. Chapter four presents the result of survey of useful technologies to investigate and realize the new energy network. Chapter five summarizes the results of this study and presents further tasks.
