Removing Barriers: The Legal Hotline Collaborates with Ford and the Michigan211 Aging Network to Serve At-Risk Seniors

Removing Barriers was a collaborative project between LHOM and the aging network211u001ewas developed to create and implement a system to ensure that at-risk seniors 211u001ereceive all necessary supportive services to secure and maintain their rights and 211u001ebenefits. At-risk clients identified anywhere in the aging network were found and 211u001ereferred LHOM for legal help, even when the client's legal problem is not within 211u001ethe provider's expertise. We also started with the assumption that at-risk people 211u001eoften need hands-on assistance to carry out the instructions from the LHOM 211u001eattorney; they may need a ride to the Medicaid office, or help to find and copy 211u001edocuments. Many times they also need an advocate in their community to support 211u001etheir attempt to exercise their rights.
