A model is suggested for the calculation of the parameters that describe the211u001espall bundles that are generated when projectiles penetrate through armour 211u001eshields. The basic requirement for the model are that the penetration and spall 211u001ebundle generation processes are described in reasonable physical terms, whereby 211u001econservation of mass and energy must not be violated. The reason for designing 211u001esuch a model is to use is as a small but important part of a computer program for 211u001evulnerability assessment of complex targets, in which vital components my be 211u001edamaged by the (remainder of the) projectile itself and/or the spall bundle. This 211u001eintended use of the model emphasises the necessity of keeping the model as simple 211u001eas possible. Several assumptions about the penetration and spall generation have 211u001eto be introduced in order to arrive at such a model. Such corroborating 211u001eexperimental results exist, but the general validity of the model remains to be 211u001eexperimentally investigated.
