UCLA measured mean isoprene emission rates for 66 species, expanding the Emission211u001eFactor database (EF) significantly, and compared the data with EF predictions 211u001emade by a taxonomic model. Taxonomic model, provides a useful general framework 211u001efor organizing and characterizing isoprene emission rates. UCLA evaluated the 211u001eprecision and accuracy of the volumetric leaf biomass model by destructive 211u001esampling of 21 trees and expanded the limited database of experimental measured 211u001eleaf biomass constants. Comparison of literature on natural forests with sites in 211u001ethis study suggests that, due to irrigation and fertilization, urban forests have 211u001ehigher leaf biomass per surface area than do natural forest. UCLA used a small 211u001efield program focused on determining plant species identity, crown height, and 211u001eareal coverage to improve and to validate the Gap Analysis Project (GAP) 211u001eGeographic Information System (GIS) vegetation maps. UCLA also guided the 211u001edevelopment of the California Biogenic Emissions Inventory through Geographic 211u001eInformation Systems (BEIGIS).
