One hundred greater prairie chickens were translocated to west central Missouri211u001ein the spring of 1995 and to north central Missouri in the spring of 1996. Birds 211u001ewere trapped in Kansas in 1995 and in Nebraska in 1996 for translocation. Upon 211u001erelease both hens and cocks dispersed widely although some remained near release 211u001esites. Some hens nested each year, but production was low. Survival rates for the 211u001eApril through August period that birds were monitored was also low, .36 in 1995 211u001eand .47 in 1996. Booming ground census numbers in west central Missouri showed no 211u001echange from long term declines. Census numbers in north central Missouri taken on 211u001ebooming grounds created from translocations prior to 1996 continued to increase 211u001ethrough 1998.
