Select Practices for Economic Development: EDA University Centers

The EDA University Center Program is unique because it stands at the primary211u001ebridge between the critical technologies, research and expertise of American 211u001ecolleges and universities, and the towns and businesses that benefit from the 211u001eapplication of these economic development-related resources. Funded by EDA, with 211u001esubstantial matching funds from state, local, and private resources, University 211u001eCenters provide high-value economic development and technology transfer services 211u001eto urban and rural communities and businesses. University Centers identify 211u001especific economic development needs in their respective states and then work to 211u001emeet those needs through various forms of technical assistance and applied 211u001eresearch. There are 68 Centers in the United States. Successful economic 211u001edevelopment models created by the Centers often become self-sufficient programs. 211u001eResults of these successful programs and projects are disseminated to assist 211u001eother Centers in helping their own clients. This publication is one such method 211u001eto highlight and disseminate best practices of the centers. The practices 211u001econtained in the report are from a multistep peer review process of 1997-98 211u001emanaged by the grantee.
