NHTSA's National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) recently examined data211u001efrom the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) National Electronic Injury 211u001eSurveillance System (NEISS) on cases involving injuries associated with motor 211u001evehicle jack failures. Jack failures are defined as situations in which the 211u001evehicle is believed to have moved either as a result of the jack or car shifting, 211u001eor as a result of the jack collapsing or losing pressure needed to hold the 211u001evehicle. NEISS data on persons treated in hospital emergency rooms for these 211u001einjuries were examined to determine the action and activity involved in producing 211u001ethe injury, the injury diagnosis and severity, the body region most often 211u001einjured, and the age of the injured person.
