摘要

This report update and consolidates all previous PHS recommendations for the211u001emanagement of health-care workers (HCWs) who have occupational exposure to blood 211u001eand other body fluids that may contain human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); it 211u001eincludes recommendations for HIV postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) and discusses the 211u001escientific rationale for PEP. The decision to recommend HIV postexposure 211u001eprophylaxis must take into account the nature of the exposure (e.g., needlestick 211u001eor potentially infectous fluid that comes in contact with a mucous membrane) and 211u001ethe amount of blood of body fluid involved in the exposure. Other considerations 211u001einclude pregnancy in the HCW and exposure to virus known or suspected to be 211u001eresistant to antiretroviral drugs. Assessments of the risk for infection 211u001eresulting from the exposure and of the infectivity of the exposure source are key 211u001edeterminants of offering PEP.
